Why isn't the lock button on my samsung captivate working?

Today i updated my samsung captivate to the android 2.2 platform. Since then the lock/power button doesn't work. it worked for a few minutes at the beginning but now it doesn't lock the phone at all. i also tried factory resetting the phone and that did nothing.
