I have D-link wireless internet and am thinking about resetting to factory settings?

What will I need to do to be able to put everything back to the way it was. Also, just to make sure, if I don't have whatever software I would need to put things back to the way that they were, would I still be able to plug an ethernet cable in and connect to the internet that way. I will be doing this on a desktop with windows xp.
