What happeens if i reset my phone to factory settings?

I have a LG optimus Titanium, and my photo gallery wont load, i have been told to try to reset it to factory settings, but when i do it says i may lose my photos and music, thats what im trying NOT to do. If i reset it will that happen? Or should i remove my memory card then do it?
