Question about resetting computer to factory settings and how it would affect the internet?

My mom swears that the last time that we reset this computer to factory settings it messed up the internet somehow. We have a modem and a router. This computer is connected wirelessly by something called D-link. I cannot find the program to use this D-link after the reset so my plan is to connect through an ethernet cable. If you could just tell me wether or not anything will happen that would be great. Thank you very much for your help.
