How to scrunch my frizzy wavy/curly hair?

okay i have very think frizzy curly wavy hair and i tried scrunching it with gel but it just became a poof. but when my sister does it it stays perfect and she has the same kind of hair as me except mine is just shorter. nay help on how to scrunch my Hair dry oh we both scrunch it dry but mine becomes a mess
